Casa Il Giardino

Price: From £650

Located near San Ginesio, Marche, Italy

Majestically positioned countryhouse, sleeping up to 8 guests, with swimming pool (10x5m)

This stone farmhouse in central Marche offers a total of four bedrooms. Three are found in the main building on the first floor and the fourth in a spacious and autonomous annexe next to the pool. Together they provide comfortable accommodation for eight guests.

Situated close to some of Marche's most stunning Apennine scenery, the views from Casa Il Giardino are some of the finest in the region and give arise to the area's nomination as the Balcony of Marche.

These views will surely prompt guests to go and explore Marche's beautiful countryside and picturesque towns and villages.

The medieval walled town of San Ginesio is of sublime beauty and has long proved popular with foreign settlers. Just a mile and a half from Casa Il Giardino it has several bars and restaurants and shops. There is also a bank and a post office.

The larger town of Sarnano is 20 minutes drive away and is at once a thriving ski resort and if anything even more of a tourist trap in the summer months. It combines great architectural beauty with good service, with a number of bars, restaurants and shops as well as a thriving weekly market.

Other pretty market towns are close by, including Amandola, Tolentino and Camerino. All are interesting places to visit, each with their own unique history and each with a proud tradition of fine cuisine and good wine.

Camerino is an ancient university town and since the earthquake of 1997 has been almost entirely restored. The nearby village of Caldarola gifts wonderful views over the town and countryside from its renaissance castle, perched defensively above the village.

Situated half an hour from the border with Umbria, Casa Il Giardino is well placed to explore central Italy in general, with Perugia, Florence, Assisi, Siena and Rome all day-trip possibilities, while to the north Bologna and San Marino await.

Yet on your doorstep there is also much to enjoy. The southern Marche provincial capital of Ascoli Piceno is stunningly beautiful with its unique marble piazza and many churches and important renaissance buildings. In northern Marche is the hilltop university town of Urbino, the birthplace of Raphael and the home of the Palazzo Ducale, an architectural masterpiece and home to the most important museum in the region, the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche.

Walkers and hikers are spoilt in this area and will inevitably want to spend much of their time in the spectacular and wild Sibillini mountains, home to wolves, chamoix, golden eagle and eagle owls and a transient population of marsicana brown bears.
